Planning has been granted for the redevelopment of this prominent corner site in Chesterton. It is proposed that the existing 'takeaways' be reinstated at ground floor level and a total of 7No. self-contained flats will be provided. The proposed development is intended to improve this important, but somewhat neglected site by providing a positive built form that addresses the curved street frontage. Soft landscaping would also be utilised to enhance the streetscape. The design has been conceived to respond to the scale of the adjoining properties and the recent residential development opposite. The proposal has been broken down into a series of interlocking elements arranged in a staggered formation that follows the curvature of the road. This is intended to retain a domestic scale and provide visual interest/articulation to the elevations. The staggered form also allows for pockets of soft landscaping to be incorporated at street-level which will enhance the setting of the proposal and provide a much improved street-scene.
