This house gained planning consent outside the village framework (on the basis of the housing shortfall of the local Council). It was conceived as a contemporary barn style dwelling to relate to its semi-rural setting. The building is timber framed, constructed from prefabricated structural insulated panels (SIPS) with facing brickwork to the gable ends and green oak boarding to the remaining elevations. Internally, a central double-height space was introduced over the dining area to create the sense of space associated with this typology. This was a self-build project and the interior fixtures and fittings were selected by the client. Sustainable technologies include solar thermal panels on the south elevation.
