Planning consent for 9 flats on Water Street granted for Blues Property
Planning consent for 9 flats has just been granted for Blues Property. The car free scheme, situated on Water Street, Cambridge went before the Cambridge City Council Planning Committee in August with a recommendation for approval.The new development will replace an existing dilapidated building which has been empty for a number of years. Concerns were raised regarding potential additional on-street parking and the proximity to an adjacent building but it was agreed that the proposal accorded with the new Cambridge Local Plan 2018.
From Water Street, the design has been conceived as a simple 2.5 storey rectangular terraced form with a two storey projecting rear wing. The design is intended to respond to the scale of the adjoining properties and the flats to the rear. The second floor element is articulated with pitched roof forms. Deep brick reveals with the windows set back 300-400mm have been introduced on the Water Street elevation to provide further articulation and interest - these will be provided with vertical timber louvers to provide additional privacy and solar shading for the large areas of glass.
The approved scheme is nearby other recent developments by NP Architects including Novum House for Laragh Homes, and the Reflections river frontage development. Together these schemes are helping to regenerate this area of Chesterton.
Construction is due to start in January 2020.
