Project Description

The site is situated opposite a pair of Listed cottages close to the village centre and was formally occupied by a bungalow dating from the 1970’s. The brief was to design a sustainable dwelling of circa 300m2 plus additional garaging, and for this to be a high quality modern building. The main volume is made up of a simple double gabled form linked by a lower scale flat roof element.  The width of the new dwelling was similar to that of the existing bungalow. The palette of materials comprise of a weathered buff colour brick, dark grey powder coated composite windows and a natural slate roof. Internally, the front door opens onto a large double-height hallway around which other rooms are located. Open plan living/dining accommodation is provided at ground floor level, to the rear, taking advantage of the garden aspect and views into the open countryside. Bedrooms and secondary living accommodation are located on the floor above. Heating is provided via a ground source heat pump.
