Project Description

This development was for a total of nine dwellings served from a new private access road. Whilst a contemporary design could have been adopted for this scheme, a ‘traditional’ approach was considered by the client to be more appropriate within the village context. In terms of design, the scheme aims to pick up on simple vernacular housing typologies and is informed by the local palette of materials and details, such as tiled pitched roofs, facing gault brickwork, render, timber weatherboarding and lead clad dormer windows used to create an environment sympathetic to the surrounding area. The units vary in footprint and storey height and scale which are largely determined by site constraints. The layout was also configured to provide a visual interest when viewed from the High Street. This project was awarded winner of the Cambridge Property Awards 2016 in the ‘Best Small Development’ category.
