Planning has recently been granted for a new development comprising 14No. two-bedroom flats. These will be accommodated within three separate blocks.
The proposed buildings have been conceived as near identical, simple gable-ended forms that not only reflect the massing of Fen View Court adjacent, but also numerous boathouse typologies found along the River Cam. Together, they attempt to create a coherent form of development on this stretch of river frontage. Internally, the flats have been laid out with the main open-plan living/dining/kitchen area given a southerly aspect to take advantage of views across Stourbridge Common. This principal elevation incorporates recessed balconies on each level, with the amount of glazing maximised.
The proposal has wider public benefits, notably facilitating improvements to the Fen Road level crossing and enabling works' access for the construction of the new cycle bridge across the river in this key location. Construction is due to commence in the summer of 2019.
