Project Description

This project involved the renovation and extension to North Lodge which is a Grade 2 Listed building built in the early C19 in the fashionable Gothic style as the entrance lodge for the Milton Hall Estate. The building had been neglected and derelict for several decades until it was purchased by our client from a national housebuilder who had bought this as part of a larger development site. The extension provides a large open-plan living/dining area looking out to the surrounding landscape, whilst the existing building was adapted and renovated to contain the bedroom and bathroom accommodation. The extension is screened from the main road by a new 'estate wall' built to match the lodge. Behind this sits a minimal single storey structure which is glazed on three sides. The extension has been distanced from the lodge by a glazed link which helps to retain the integrity of the original structure and allows for the creation of two courtyard gardens. The openness of the extension is intended to contrast with the intimate character of the original interiors.
